In 1955 a small group of local young men and woman, united by their desire to find a meaningful way in which to realistically live their daily lives in a Jewish fashion, came together to establish a Reform community in Brighton & Hove. This community has come a long way since its humble beginnings to the flourishing Synagogue it is today.
As part of the Movement for Reform Judaism we adopt an open and positive attitude to Jews, welcoming all as they are, rather than as others think they should be. We include many whose families have been Reform Jews for generations and also those whose upbringing was in orthodox communities. We are also a beacon of welcome for those who have drifted away from formal association with the community through apathy, antipathy or out-marriage.
Whether you are joining us for the first time or you are a regular visitor, we are pleased to welcome you to our synagogue. We are a large and active congregation but we also are proud to be a close family – a mishpacha.
Also a Judaica Shop stocking Mezuzot, Shabbat candles & candlesticks, talithot & kippot, books, Yahrzeit candles and more! We also have a stock of prayer books and benchers. If we don’t have it, we can order it in! All the festivals catered for, with cards, serviettes and special gifts.
Open during office hours. Mon – Thurs 9.30am – 3.30pm Fri 9.30am – 2pm
