In addition to four congregational Synagogues Brighton & Hove is home to Middle Street Synagogue, ‘one of Europe’s greatest Synagogues’, which was opened in 1875. Although not in full time use, special services and weddings are still held. The building is open to the public at certain times and has been Grade II listed to reflect its architectural and historic importance. Middle Street has the finest 19th century decorative interior of any building in Brighton with the sole exception of the Brighton Pavilion. Every year we welcome hundreds and hundreds of people who leave a little more enlightened and usually a little astonished at the hidden jewel of an interior they discovered behind those big mahogany doors. Tour groups are welcome and we are always delighted to arrange guided tours and talks for groups from schools, all other faiths and backgrounds, historical societies, friendly societies, art and photographic clubs and similar. Talks can be tailored to suit your particular needs and we are always happy to answer all questions. Please contact the office BHHC on 01273 888855.
